Torino Film Festival

October 14, 2009

27th Torino Film Festival (November 13th – 21st, 2009)

TFF

Gustavo Jahn & Melissa Dullius will be in Torino between November 17th and 21st to present Triangulum. The film was selected for the Waves section.

“Waves is the section in which the Torino Film Festival’s tradition of research and renewal is pushed to the limit, into territories that are at the outer edge of genres, languages, standards and lengths. This is the section in which the consolidated poetics of the maestros encounter the extreme experimentation of young filmmakers or the most unexpected formulas of contemporary filmmaking. Here, images search for their future, filming rediscovers its infancy in the archives and in new standards, and cartooning reveals itself as a place of animation and innovation both before and after digital aspirations. The works’ length can vary from the very short to the very long and they range from film emulsions to the high or low definition of digital technology. Cinema is viewed through the eyes of evergreen directors like Stephen Dwoskin, Ken Jacobs, Tonino De Bernardi, Gianikian & Ricci Lucchi, Béla Tarr, Raul Ruiz, Raya Martin, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Albert Serra, Sandro Aguilar, Kohei Oguri and many others. All this is proposed in a selection of feature films, accompanied by shorts and very shorts, tributes and small personal works dedicated to historical or emerging figures in the most advanced panorama of international filmmaking.”

Aurora: Mythic Encounters

October 13, 2009

Aurora

Between november 13th and 15th, Melissa Dullius, Gustavo Jahn and Michel Balagué will attend the Aurora Festival Weekend.  The film was invited from the festival´s director Adam Pugh and will compose with 2 other films the program Mythic Encounters.

“Looking at the space where fiction collides with the everyday, this programme comprises three films which each propose a composite reality drawn from both active and passive sources. In the case of Beatrice Gibson’s remarkable A Necessary Music, the division between fiction (in the form of a novel by Adolfo Bioy Casares, which influences the narrative) and various proposed realities become blurred until each informs the other.

Triangulum, by Brazilian artists Melissa Dullius and Gustavo Jahn, is more ostensibly a fantasy yet, in using the filmmakers also as actors and scriptwriters – devising the action through being in the film – similarly shows how the use of allegory and myth can help to reveal more about our world, particularly when used in a context which in some way includes the ‘real’, documentable world. It’s about the way we perceive it, certainly, but also about the extent to which we do perceive it.” (From the Festival´s website)
